This is Appledore, a village in north Devon, where we stayed (in the tallest house).

  • Role: setting
  • In the article: A newsletter holiday write-up, set out as a list of Devon highlights. Appledore is the base. The author loves the Instow–Appledore ferry, which takes bikes and runs only at high tide when the River Torridge has enough water, and rides the Tarka Trail, a traffic-free route on old railway lines with gentle gradients and “views spectacular”.
  • Why it matters: The base for the whole trip; the ferry and the trail (folded in here, no standard-source coordinate for either) are what make it a cycling holiday. See also Clovelly and Lundy.
