Most recently, I stayed in a very small cabin in Corralitos, a small town just south of Santa Cruz, with the intent of going bird-watching at the Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve.
- Role: journey waypoint
- In the book: Odell retreats to a cabin for several days without speaking to anyone and drives from there to Elkhorn Slough on the third day, listening to a Santa Cruz radio DJ.
- Why it matters: It is the solitary base from which the epiphany trip begins; minor in itself.
