I took a cab out to Murray Canyon, a trail maintained by the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians on their reservation.
- Role: setting
- In the book: Walking the canyon she uses iNaturalist to name brittlebush, fan palms, a phainopepla and a chuckwalla. She uses the experience to defend naming as a first step toward kinship rather than alienation.
- Why it matters: It is a place where she practices bioregional attention while traveling; it illustrates that ‘to behold is to become beholden to’.
