On the 24 March, 2006, an entire section of the cliff gave way, sending tonnes of rock onto the highway below, and killing two people.
- Role: subject
- In the video: The whole video is about this 12.5 km offshore road between Saint-Denis and La Possession, built to replace the cliff road after the 2006 rockfall. It covers the 5.4 km Grande Chaloupe viaduct, the sea dyke and its rock-quarry fight, the cost overrun to over $2bn, and the decision to finish the last stretch as a viaduct.
- Why it matters: The road is the video’s single subject; its story of isolation, a quarry ban and miscounted rock is the argument.
