Killing time before a meeting with someone at SFMOMA, I was wandering through the different floors and ended up in the exhibition
- Role: setting
- In the book: Odell wanders the museum before a meeting and is stopped by Ellsworth Kelly’s four-panel Blue Green Black Red. She finds the flat blue vibrating and spends equal time on each panel. The encounter teaches her about attention and duration.
- Why it matters: It is the concrete scene for the claim that paintings train attention; a different venue would change little, but the physical presence of the work is the point.
