Source: Original · Readwise highlight
We were within fifty miles of one of the most romantic mountains in the world - Roraima.
- Role: turning point
- In the book: With a spare week, Attenborough and Charles Lagus canoe up the Kako hoping to see the tepui that inspired The Lost World. They glimpse its rectangular outline across a savannah, twenty miles off, before the river turns north and they must turn back to catch the float-plane.
- Why it matters: An unreached goal: the mountain is seen only from afar, but the detour is a memorable episode.
