- Role: setting
- In the book: Easter, Donnie and William pitch their teepee on a mesa in the river system for the hunt. A storm nearly flattens the teepee on the first night, then days of waiting for caribou lead into the book’s chapters on boredom and the ‘three-day effect’.
- Why it matters: The book’s main Arctic setting, where its ideas about discomfort are tested.
