I came across an aerial map of Rancho Rinconada, the Cupertino neighborhood I grew up in, as it was being built in the 1950s.
- Role: backdrop
- In the book: Looking at a 1950s aerial photo against Google Maps, she finds her childhood house and realizes a wiggly line is Saratoga Creek, which ran past the neighborhood pool. This launches her rediscovery of the local watershed.
- Why it matters: It is the starting point of the creek story and her ignorance of home geography; minor as a place in itself.
