After visiting the market, we jumped in another taxi and headed a few miles north of town to the Valenciana area of Guanajuato. This area is silver mine central.
- Role: journey waypoint
- In the article: After the market the family takes a taxi a few miles north to ‘silver mine central’. In hard hats they descend hundreds of feet into the 400-year-old Boca Mina San Ramón; next door is the ornate Valenciana church, built with the silver barons’ money.
- Why it matters: The mines explain why the city exists and how it got rich; the church shows that wealth.
